Sunday, August 30 — and if you can hear a faint whoosh, that's summer officially checking out. gamescom wraps TODAY in Cologne, a Dota 2 dynasty got its third championship on Sunday last week, and tech YouTube spent the week arguing about GPU prices, review methodology, and whether Linux is about to eat Windows gaming. gamescom 2026 — Wrapping Up TODAY (Aug 26–30, Cologne)

The world's biggest games show closes its doors tonight. The awards ceremony went down Friday, August 28, across 19 categories, with CD PROJEKT RED and SEGA taking home three trophies each, Capcom and Ubisoft winning two apiece, and — the feel-good moment of the show — Games Done Quick honored with the HEART OF gamescom award. PAX West — NEXT WEEKEND (Sept 4–7, Seattle Convention Center)

Labor Day weekend, Pacific Northwest, four days of gaming until midnight each night. Panels, tournaments, tabletop, concerts, and a show floor full of things to overheat about. If you're anywhere near Seattle, this is your last big summer event. Apple "Surprise and Shine" — Wednesday, September 9 (10 AM PT, Steve Jobs Theater)

The biggest hardware launch event of the fall: iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the first foldable iPhone Ultra, second-gen iPhone Air, and new Apple Watches are all expected. Not PC hardware per se, but this event sets the tone for every tech launch cycle through the holidays — and the ripple effects on pricing conversations (and RAM) are very much our problem too.

DreamHack Stockholm — November 27–29

🏆 Esports Corner: Team Spirit's Third Aegis

The International 2026 wrapped in Shanghai on August 23, and the story is historic: Team Spirit defeated TEAM VISION in the Grand Finals to claim their THIRD Aegis of Champions — a dynasty at the highest-stakes event Dota 2 has. After a rough regular year, they peaked at exactly the right moment, in front of a home-crowd-adjacent Chinese audience at the Oriental Sports Center. Prize pool: $3,772,924 per Liquipedia.   • Micro Center going robotics (see Jayz above) is my favorite community story of the week — physical PC retail isn't just surviving, it's expanding weirdly and wonderfully.
  • Open Sauce gave us the LTT screwdriver one-word-takes — the creator-science community has quietly become one of the best parts of the tech calendar.
  • Nvidia's quarter (the industry undertow under all of this): revenue of $96 billion with $59.7 billion in earnings, a "shockingly bullish" ~70% growth forecast for next fiscal year, a $442 billion single-day market-cap move, and Jensen Huang passing Zuckerberg and Ellison to become the world's sixth-richest person at $196.8 billion. Every AI datacenter GPU allocation is why your gaming card and RAM cost what they cost. It's all connected.
  • Zen 6 on AM5 confirmed (HUB pod) — the AM5 platform just became an even better long-term investment for builders. If you built AM5 in the last two years, congrats: your board has more life in it.
